About the Course Creator

Greetings, my name is Nick, and in 2016, I began my journey as a beginner in piano tuning and repair, just like you. Balancing my full-time job as an educator, I was fueled by a determination to uncover a path to financial growth. Through hard work and dedication, I became proficient in the art of piano tuning and repair and serve hundreds of clients in my area, even considering many of them as friends that I get to serve once or twice per year. I have now compiled my knowledge into a comprehensive 10-module course. I spent nearly 2 years of effort writing, filming, and editing together the course until I could consider it my best effort. I live in the United States with wife and 4 kids.

What you need, and what you don't

Good news: Almost everyone can learn to tune and repair pianos. Here is what is required  and what is not

✅ You need normal hearing ability. I don't mean that you need a "good musical ear" or anything like that. No. I simply mean that if you have normal hearing, then you are capable of learning to tune pianos.

✅ You need to have perseverance. It's really important to understand that this is a skill that takes time and practice to learn and then get better at. When you first start tuning pianos, it will take much longer for you than it does for a seasoned professional. You will also make beginner mistakes, such as breaking strings, which this course teaches you how to repair in 3 different ways. If you are serious about learning and acquiring this skill set, just don't expect it to happen overnight.

✅ You need to have piano tools. It's certainly possible to start with the essential tools only, as I detail in the tools module, but expect to spend some money on tools to get started. They last a long time if you take care of them. I haven't had to replace very many tools at all throughout my piano service career.

❌ You don't need to have any musical experience. While it's nice to be able to play a simple song after finishing a tuning, it is not required for the actual skill of tuning the piano. Tuning the piano is a completely separate skill from playing the piano.

What I promise, and what I can't

There are some things that I can promise , and some things that I can't promise ❌

✅ I promise this course absolutely gives you the instruction needed to get started. In this course, I walk you through the exact processes what I do in tuning and repairing pianos. I even included beginner methods for tuning in addition to the better, albeit more advanced, methods that are taught.

✅ I promise you can learn it. If you have normal hearing capability and the patience and desire to succeed, then you can learn to tune and repair pianos if you put your effort into it.

✅ I promise I will share my experience with you and not hold anything back. I have been in this trade since 2016. There are certainly others with more experience than me, and I continue learning all the time, as any lifelong learner should, but I have been successful in this trade and serve hundreds of happy clients. Building a great rapport with clients, I return to service their pianos year after year and even now consider many of them as friends. I spent almost 2 years building this course to be the best that I could make it, and I truly feel that I share everything I can to help a beginner to successfully get started in piano tuning and repair.

❌ I can't promise it's easy. If you want to acquire this skill set, it will require lots of practice and patience as you work hard to become proficient in the skills that are taught in this course.

❌ I can't promise you'll instantly have tons of clients. Like in any new small business, you start at zero. To grow your new business and build a base of returning clients, you need to develop skills, market those skills to others, and prove yourself to be reliable and competent.

❌ can't promise you'll be mistake-free as you learn. I am a big believer that making mistakes is an important part of learning, and while learning to care for pianos, you can expect that you will make mistakes. That's why it's important to never practice new skills on expensive, valuable pianos. Fortunately, you can find and designate "practice pianos" that aren't worth much money, and feel comfortable making mistakes on them as you learn.
